Leonie Meester

Leonie Meester is a research master student in African Studies at Leiden University. For her Master’s thesis she interprets the intersection between youth, the social medium Facebook and activism for political change in Cameroon. For this research project Leonie spent time in Cameroon during 2011-2012.

Leonie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from University College Utrecht. During her Bachelor’s research project she engaged with a group of female rejected asylum seekers in The Netherlands. For this thesis she analyzed the viewpoints of this group of women with regards to their own position within a Dutch society.

The concepts of power, belonging, marginalization and (dis)connection play an important role in Leonie’s research endeavours.
